The Teacher’s Online Grade Book

MyGradeBook is a popular online grading tool for teachers. It has allowed teachers to create more than 36 million assignments and recorded more than 880 million scores since it began more than 10 years ago.

After a recent revamp of their website design, MyGradeBook now features wider pages and faster, easier navigation. It also now has online student seating chart, which lets you upload photos of students and name them quickly and easily. Additionally, as an enhancement to teacher collaboration, MyGradeBook also features “Share with teachers” option.

Access to MyGradeBook accounts is password-protected. All log-in attempts are recorded, so every time an attempt to access your account is made, MyGradeBook emails you, showing the date and time that the account was accessed, the IP address of the computer that accessed the account, and the result of the attempt. If there are three straight unsuccessful attempts, the account is automatically locked for an hour.

Your students can only view their own grades in the site. They can use the automatic login link in the “Grades Updated” email that you send them or go to the site and enter a password that you provided them.

Explore the features of MyGradeBook and design a grade book that will best suit your grading style for your own convenience. Here are some of the things you can do using MyGradeBook:

  • Score assignments
  • Print out reports
  • Email parents of your students for updates
  • Track you student attendance
  • Develop reports on student performance (grade summaries for each student, performance comments, low and missing scores, percentages by category, attendance summaries, quiz scores, and many more)
  • Calculate grades
  • Email students individually or as a class for announcements or any concerns
  • Define grading scales using your own codes, percentages, and descriptions
  • Define your own non-numeric scoring codes
  • Create as many categories as you want (i.e., homework, tests, quizzes) within categories
  • Override grades computed by MyGradebook
  • Give password access to students and parents so they can view grades online
  • Keep parents informed, increasing their involvement in their children’s studies. They get view-only access to individual grades and class standing (optional) of their children, your comments, assignment descriptions and due dates, attendance, class announcements, and your class calendar.
  • Create online quizzes and manage them. There is a large library of teacher-created quizzes which you can use, categorized by subject, skill, or grade level. You can administer quizzes online which generate score automatically. There is also a print option for offline quizzes, and online storage so quiz scores remain accessible.
