Nutrition Facts Part 1: Daily Nutritional Guide for Teens
Focusing on the development of healthy lifestyle and positive nutrition habits among students, the National Nutrition Council launches this year’s Nutrition Month with the theme “Healthy Lifestyles ng Kabataan, Landas ng Kinabukasan”. With the assistance of the Department of Education and schools, parents and teachers are urged to help children get fit, get smart, and stay healthy.
Adolescents like high school students require more nutrients in their diet for better growth and development. However, most teenagers, and sometimes even adults, do not know what kind of foods and how much of each food group are best for them, hence malnutrition is very common among Filipino children and adolescents.
What is the ideal diet for high school students? The table below is a schedule of daily food intakes for teenagers 13-19 years old recommended by The Daily Nutritional Guide Pyramid of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST).
